Dali & Disney: Destino by David A. Bossert

Details

Most people know that Walt Disney and Salvador Dali were both wonderfully talented artists, but few are aware that they were lifelong friends and collaborators. In 1946, they began working on a project together, intended to be a short animated film called 'Destino'. Dali partnered with Disney legend John Hench to storyboard the film, but production was brought to a halt because of financial difficulties at the Disney Studios following WWII.

More than 50 years later, Walt's nephew, Roy E. Disney, uncovered the buried project and decided to give it new life. The film went on to be nominated for an Academy Award in 2004 and received many accolades along the way.

This book showcases all of the artwork created by Dali and Hench, including story sketches, visual development art, and the original Dali paintings that are featured in the film. It also features a series of images explaining how the sole piece of animation art filmed in 1946 was digitally cut apart, restored, and then reassembled for the completed 2003 film version.

This richly illustrated volume, featuring never-before published artwork and letters, tells the fascinating story of the little-known but rich history of two exceptional men and their unique film. Hardcover, 208 pages, David A. Bossert Author, Disney Books Publishing.
