'The Hallucinogenic Toreador' (1969-70)
This monumental canvas is a retrospective vision of Dali's life and art, and makes reference to many earlier images and icons. Dali conceived the painting when he imagined the face of a toreador in the figure of Venus reproduced on a box of Venus pencils. The painting contains many double images and pays homage to his Spanish heritage.
