'The Hallucinogenic Toreador' (1969-70) is a monumental canvas, a retrospective vision of Dali's life and art. The painting makes reference to many of his earlier images and icons. Dali conceived the painting when he imagined the face of a toreador in the figure of Venus reproduced on a box of Venus pencils. 'The Hallucinogenic Toreador' painting contains many double images and pays homage to Dali's Spanish heritage.
